I don’t find SNL that funny very often, but this is pretty fun.

JQuery Hint Plugin

Brian Glass pointed out the excellent JQuery hint plugin, which also solves the issue I wrote about recently (having text in an input field automatically disappear when you click on it).

The comment was lost because I was messing with my Disqus settings (careful, there!), but I thought it was worth pointing to; a small thing, but quite handy.

In the long run, it’s an incredible time savings not to have to re-solve these sorts of small problems every time you create a form.

I recently added disqus comments. I’m still not 100% sold on the idea. What do you think?

Processing.js

I have not even had time to play with this yet, but John Resig, creator of the excellent jquery Javascript library, has released Processing.js, a port of Processing to Javascript.

And there was much rejoicing.

On IT Support Stereotypes

I think everyone’s familiar with the IT helpdesk stereotype, typified by parodies like SNL’s Nick Burns, the BOFH, and so on. The stereotype is that support has little patience for users, thinks they’re all morons, and so on.

I was thinking about this recently, as all to often I do see the tendency in myself and other support professionals to edge toward this stereotype. It bugs me, because I hate that stereotype, so I was wondering why this seems to happen.
