Apple Releases Safari 3 for Mac… and Windows

Apple has released a new version of Safari; well, the beta, at least.

This would probably pass without comment everywhere except the Mac-centric world, except that they have a version for Windows…

I, for one, did not see that coming.

And, judging by the press, they’ve shot themselves in the foot. The majority of reports I’ve seen have basically said “even if they fix the bugs, it’s not as good as Firefox/Opera”

Yeah… while it is “public beta,” in the few short hours I ran it at work yesterday it did exhibit some bugs.

“As good as Firefox/Opera” is pretty subjective, dependent on what you want to do… I would like to hope Apple finds a niche on Windows. If nothing else, maybe people who’ve only used IE will try it, realize that there are other browsers in the world, and try Firefox as well…

For myself, I use Firefox regardless of platform; I don’t even use Safari on its native Mac OS. It’s not that “Safari’s bad,” but that I simply prefer Firefox, and all the plug-ins and features that make it more or less irreplaceable.
