“Christian” vs. “Christ-Follower”

Found these via del.icio.us (of course) at a site called ThinkChristian.net.

First, one of the videos:

GMail: Creepy?

Apparently some folks think Gmail is too creepy not just to use, but even to reply to.

This, notwithstanding that given any email server, web-based or host-based, that is outside your control, there is potential that someone could be reading your mail, indexing keywords, storing it in perpetuity, all without telling you. It’s not necessarily likely, but the potential is there.

If anything, Google’s reasonably open disclosure of what they do makes them a little less creepy.

I realize I’m acting as a bit of a Google apologist here, but come on… Is anyone really concerned about this?

Anyone other than paranoid security fanatics, I mean? ;-)

So, What Do You Think?

Whoever “you” are. ;-)

“You” would be the small group of people who keeps coming back and reading this… Despite the fact that this weblog has not been updating regularly and has not had any consistent theme for a long time, a few people evidently keep reading it.

Most people seem to get here via a particular search. My little post on David and Dale Garrett’s “Scripture in Song”, for example, has received more comments than anything else I’ve ever posted about. On the other hand, the few useful Linux HOWTOs that I’ve posted have received more visits than almost anything else I’ve posted.

So, what do you think? What do you like about the content here? What do you hate?

Do you skip the articles about Linux, or do you tend to skip the articles about Christianity? (Not that there have been too many of the latter… which, maybe I should change…)

If you are a regular or semi-regular visitor, please take a moment and leave a comment, even if it’s just “I don’t care” or “Don’t change anything”… I’m interested.

What You Expect When You Open The Bible

Next quarter I’m teaching a class on “Knowing Your Bible.” Naturally, as I prepare for this, I’ve been thinking of all the different topics and ideas that relate to knowing your Bible and personal Bible study, and one of the things I keep coming back to is the idea of our expectations.

When we open a novel, we expect to be entertained. When we open a book of cartoons, we expect to be amused. When we turn to a “how-to” or other non-fiction book, we expect to be educated.

What do we expect when we open the Bible?
