That’s a deliberate double-entendre in the title of the post; I’m actually talking about World Of Warcraft, popularly abbreviated “WoW”. And regarding the customer service… yes, the conventional use of the term “wow” is also appropriate. I’m impressed.
Here’s the scenario:
I just decided to repartition my main PC; starting up at the U, I figured that I would possibly need to use Windows occasionally, and it became clear that the measly 7 GB partition that I had shoved Windows XP into was almost useless, considering that Windows itself seemed to take up almost 4 GB (before you write to correct me; yes, I know that it shouldn’t take up quite that much space. But after deleting every single additional program I’d ever installed, I still couldn’t get the “used” space to drop below 4 GB).
Having just installed Arch Linux, it seemed like a good time to do this; sure, I’d have to reinstall Arch, but it wasn’t like I had invested all sorts of time into configuring it yet.
So, I repartitioned, and given the trials I was enduring getting the patched version of wine to work on Arch, I decided to go ahead and install WoW on the Windows partition.
At some point in my recent attempts to install WoW, disc 4 became scratched, to the point where the main data file was unreadable.
Bummer.
However — it turns out that all I need to do is return the disc, and they’ll replace it. There is a customary $10 shipping/handling fee, which is reasonable, but due to the holiday season, this fee is waived.
All in all, I’m completely impressed. Way to go, Blizzard.

hey a couple of dudes I used to work with at EA are over at blizzard now
what a small world uh? anyway I’m praying the Lord will deliver you from that game so you can join me in the lively world of NBA 2006 online or maybe a little Halilife 2

Heh, thanks ubertech.
I probably spend only a few hours a week on WoW, and it’s pretty much the only game I play on the PC. Most of my gaming, when I have time, is now on an XBox, so it’s certainly conceivable that I could pick up either of the games you mention, sometime.
It is a small world; I have a friend who used to work at EA in Vancouver, BC, but that was a long time ago — I don’t know where he is now.
Later!
Phil, I hope to join you in the WoW sometime soon. In the meantime, please entertain yourself here -> http://youtube.com/watch.php?v=zLElfJ9YCh0
