Time Traveller’s Convention

Some folks at MIT have decided to hold a Time Traveller’s Convention(there is also a discussion of the memo on Slashdot). The idea is that if the event is famous enough, future generations will have record of it, and future time travellers will see it as an event worth the travel back.

This would make a great science-fiction story, but it’s a little strange to be attempting it in actuality. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I suppose. I have a few theoretical objections, however; for one, if time travel were developed sufficiently far into the future, it becomes less and less likely that this event would be recorded.

The other problem is that in the event there were actual time travellers in the future, you would logically conclude that the ethical dilemma of altering the past would be fairly important to them; it’s possible that they would effectively prohibit themselves from even attending such an event. Hmm.
