I don’t know about you, but I had a little trouble accessing this site over the last hour or so; it seems to be working fine again, so if anyone was trying to see or read something and was inconvenienced, I apologize.
Not that there’s any lack of other pages on the web… :-)

I generally hate echoing Slashdot articles, because it means that many people who happen to come here after having read Slashdot only have the same old news to read. This is really interesting though.

In other news, one of O’Reilly’s newest publications, Make, is now available. Make is a "mook", which is apparently a cross between a magazine and a book.
Readers of the ever entertaining Boingboing may have known about this publication for some time now, as there are several bloggers associated with boing-boing who are contributors to make.

I think playing with scheme is going to take a back seat, again, for awhile. Having a little free time last night, rather than installing the scheme interpreter and playing with that, I started checking out gtk+ programming, something I’ve been interested in for awhile.
I think now that my next project will be some sort of gtk+ program. This stuff is great!

The football season can be a disappointing time. Especially in Minnesota. The newest non-copyright-infringing addition to the philcrissman.com store has just been added; an encouraging word for all the NFL fans in Minnesota, and even other places.

"There’s always next year." Surely, words to live by.

One of my personal fascinations is computer programming. I just plain think that it’s fun. My personal favorite languages to play with are Perl, PHP, and Python (holy alliteration, Batman). Meanwhile, I keep hearing things about Lisp.
Lisp is one of those languages that I want to learn, but haven’t taken the time for; but I think I’ve found the way to start learning it.

It’s enough to make one ask, Just what exactly is Google doing, here?
I’m going to assume that the reader knows what gmail is. It is admittedly pretty amazing that, while other purveyors of web-based email need to plead with people to sign up, Google had people lining up to get a gmail address before they even released the project into beta. GMail has pretty much become my primary email address; it is accessible from anywhere, I can use pop-mail with it if I really want to, and for some reason Google was able to get right something that most other web-based email providers botched: a good user interface.

Richard Stallman; love him or hate him, it’s difficult not to be entertained by him.
I appreciate the free software movement which he initiated, even though I often chuckle at his zealous rants about freedom, and how our software can restrict it or enable it.
This time he’s calling Bill Gates a communist; enjoy.
